ABOUT
About Us
Built in a garage. Trusted across the country.
Tolthawk started with a simple idea: help people respond to water problems before it’s too late.
After retiring from Microsoft, our founder, Nayab Khan, was enjoying life on his blueberry farm in Snoqualmie Valley. He started tinkering with plant sensors for local farmers, just something to stay curious. Then, a local nonprofit asked if he could build a sensor for flood detection. That was the start.
The first Tolthawk sensor was built in his garage. It worked. Word spread. More requests came in, from cities, from utilities, from people who needed reliable water alerts. Before long, the garage wasn’t big enough. So we moved into a small warehouse in Carnation, Washington, where we still build and test every Tolthawk device by hand.
Today, Tolthawk has hundreds of installations across the U.S. What makes us different is how we started and how we still operate. We keep things simple, practical, and real. No bloated teams. No complicated tech you don’t need. Just tools that work, designed by people who care.
We named Tolthawk after the nearby Tolt River, where our very first sensor still runs. This company was built with hands-on work, community support, and a belief that small teams can solve big problems.
And we still believe that.
